Again, Skipsrevyen's readers and jury will honour a shipping company, a shipyard and designers for setting a new standard in the ‘green shift’. The holistic and innovative way of thinking means that this vessel significantly reduces emissions compared to other vessels that do the same job. And the shipping company is planning many more of the same type, with the sister ship just around the corner.

Ship of the Year 2024 goes to a vessel which not only offers many technical innovations, but which in many ways sets a new standard in its class.

Some facts about this year's winner:

  • Compared to similar vessels, the CO2 emissions are reduced by over 90%

  • Has hybrid propulsion

  • Has an operation duration of more than 30 days

  • Proving the saying: Size isn't everything

Scheduled for deployment in 2024 under the Norwegian flag, the vessel is poised to revolutionise offshore subsea operations, aligning with sustainability initiatives. Reach Remote offers secure, eco-friendly, and cost-effective solutions for global subsea inspection, survey, and intervention services. This groundbreaking project integrates Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) with Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), paving the way for advancements in remote maritime technologies and marking a significant milestone in global maritime operations.

The Reach Remote USV will be uncrewed from day 1 and equipped to operate from a Remote-Operations Control Centre (ROC).

The USV will be equipped with state-of-the-art systems to enable remote operations, covering requirements from all stakeholders such as regulators, clients, and classification authorities. Multiple communication systems are incorporated in the design, such as VSAT, 5G, Iridium, Ceragon Pointlink and Starlink.

The jury in Skipsrevyen's Ship of the Year awards this year's prize to ‘Reach Remote 1’.

Congratulations to Reach Subsea for their vision and forward-looking work on the project.

Congratulations to Kongsberg Maritime who designed and had project management on ‘Reach Remote 1’.

Congratulations to Trosvik Maritime who won the award at the very first attempt.
